My name is Jill Burnes and I am currently the Director of Teaching and Learning for the Enumclaw School District. I am in my 29th year in education and happy to report I am still in love! I fell in love in Bellingham, Washington in 1990 with an amazing group of 5th grade students. What I remember most about those first years is how much I didn't know about teaching and learning and how much my students taught me about teaching and learning. I also remember what an incredible responsibility I felt and a keen awareness of the influence or impact that my daily words and actions could have on my students. I still feel that strong sense of responsibility but I like to think it has matured into a stronger awareness of my core beliefs about public education and our collective responsibility to truly understand what it means to meet the needs of all students in our schools. I am fortunate enough to work in a progressive school district with an outstanding group of colleagues who share these beliefs and value relationships and learning. So after 29 years, I have more questions than answers, but we are working together everyday to help each other stay in love and be relentless in our pursuit of schools and classrooms that engage students in irresistible, deep, authentic, and exciting learning.
I hope you find some inspiration and energy from following along on our learning journey.
